TECH Tips: My Smartphone working using my Car Stereo System

I couldn’t connect my iPhone on my car stereo for some unknown reason. So, I used this bluetooth receiver for connectivity. The connection was fast (approximately 3-5 seconds) and stable (no broken connection), I use it more often for hands-free phone calls while driving.

It is composed of a jack that will connect the main bluetooth device to the audio jack of your stereo. Pairing it is done by pushing a button on the receiver and pairing your smartphone with it. A second device may be attached in the same way, and for it to work, the first will have to be toned down.

It looks streamlined with my stereo on the dashboard and does its job. If only a self-detecting bluetooth receiver can be invented to eliminate pushing the button on the receiver then the process would be simpler.

This can also be used for older home stereo systems that do not have bluetooth connectivity features.

TECH Tips: Toy for the Not-So-Big Boys

This RC red car by Click n’ Play had been loads of fun for the family lately, specially for my 10-year old nephew. The remote control works at a distance of up to 200 feet with two throttles to produce even 360-degree turns. It can go through dry and wet surfaces without damage to the batteries on the car. We tried it on a 30-degree hard soil hill and it got over it in a flash on newly-charged batts.

The red car is made of shiny hard plastic and the tires have traction and threads that can go through mud mounds and puddles easily on a flat surface. The lights work and add detail to the design.

It’s nice that the whole kit has provisions for rechargeable batteries and charger, so you get to play with it right away. A full charging is good for 1-hour of active use. A screwdriver is included for battery changing.

Looks like it can handle drops from small hands, too.

TECH Tips & TRAVEL Bug: Keeping Track of My Daughter When in the Crowded Places at Night

I have another purpose for this night running belt. I have my 10-year old daughter use it when we are in unfamiliar public places at night or in the dark, like in the airport when we travel, when in the park watching concerts, picnics and camping, etc. That’s because we don’t want to lose each other in large crowds.

It is easy to track where she is and goes due to the LED lights that have 3 flashing options. It works on 2 CR2032 and had not been them since we got it 2 weeks ago and having used it for a total of 200 hours.

The belt fits her 24-inch waistline but can go from 22 to 44 inches with the stretchy material of the band. The buckle is snap-on hard plastic, easy on and off wearbility from the front or back, wherever you want the lights to flash (normally, at the back).

The LED-lighted portion, about a foot in length, is right along the zip part, which can carry her iPhone 5s. When she needs her smartphone, she rotates the belt 180-degrees to get it in and out.

This can also be used around pets for tracking at night, like I do with my labrador Santino who has a chest size within the range above, and the pockets I use for emergency litter bags.

For the versatility of use and protection/security it provides, this LED-lighted running belt is worth its price at $19.

HOME Helps & TECH Tips: Testing Rechargeable Battery Performance with My Second MultiTester

T.amz.MultiTester2.Volmate.15.11.19

Multitester (Voltmeter-Ahmmeter-Ohmmeter) by Volmate

This is my second multimeter product, and this looks sturdier and more well-made than my $9 unit (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TWTLWT8), though both serve the same purpose for me, that is, to check on spent batteries.

With both with me for a month now, I cannot say which one will last longer, but average consumer mentality dictates that a more expensive one may last longer. This unit looks better made for drops and bangs when in the toolbox, but it’s good advice to keep it in its own box, and this has a detachable rubber bumper to keep the sides scratch-free. The size is approximately 3 iPhone 6s put on top of each other, and with the same weight.

I have several medical devices (blood pressure monitor, oximeter, glucometer, etc.), tech gadgets (remote control, bluetooth speakers, etc.) and small kitchen appliances (kitchen scale, wine bottle opener, etc.) that run on DC voltage, so whenever applicable, I invest on rechargeable ones. I’m not an electrician, just an ordinary pencil-pusher and homemaker, and I’d like to get the most out of my pricey battery investments. To check if batteries are still operating, I turn the settings to the voltmeter reading based on the battery output then use the probes on the (+) and (-) ends, accordingly.

With its voltmeter function, I know which battery to discard and which to keep should I observe poor performance, ex. long charging time or vice-versa, short performance time. The reading is on black fonts in blue lighted background, the dial clicks with slightly easier pressure than my first, and the memory function is useful when taking multiple readings.

This multimeter has helped me identify which brands of rechargeable batteries to consider for repeat purchases. For its stlll affordable price of $15, I have saved on battery power expenses and made me clutter-free from spent batteries.

I now keep this multitester together with my box of batteries, and gave my first one away to my nephew for further testing with his school projects. It is compact, comes with 9-volt batteries which made me use it right away, and I keep the probes attached and rolled with tiewire to avoid internal probe wires from breaking.

TECH Tips & HEALTH Helps: Antidote for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for Sitting 12 Hours a Day on a Computer

I must be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome with the time I spend typing away on my computer. I use an Apple bluetooth keyboard, which ergonomically designed as it is, would still require additional support and comfort to ease the tired, painful and memory muscles locked into the position for long hours.

I stay in front of a computer endlessly, and my job and hobby entails being seated for at least 12 hours a day, inactive and sedentary, with my wrists curled up in a ball throughout the period. This all-day position stiffens my wrist and hand muscles tremendously, along with other body parts that rarely move. There are times I think this would gradually progress into arthritic hands as I age. So, I gotta prevent or at least, delay it as early as now.

The quickest preventive solution for carpal tunnel syndrome is to use a keyboard wrist pad. This pad is made of material that has less friction (somewhat silky slippery), not odor-absorbent and with a memory foam that molds onto the contours of the wrists and hands at point of contact. I stick this onto the tabletop aligned lengthwise parallel to the keyboard with double-adhesive tape so it stays in place. It is long enough for my keyboard with approximately 2-inch allowance on each side, and wide enough to sit the base of my palm, that’s approximately 2-inches wide.

It comes with a matching black padded mouse pad that makes my office desk professional-looking and sleek.

TECH Tips: Simultaneous Car Charging for 2 Devices While Driving

T.amz.CarCharger.OneFastCharger.15.11.15

Dual-Port Car Charger by One Fast Charger

I spend a total of 3 to 4 hours in traffic, and try to be productive while in this annoying situation. I keep this universal lightning charger permanently on my car charging terminal for convenience, for regular charging of my smartphone and tablet. I’m glad it’s in black because it matches the dark dashboard of my car.

Geeks who’s constantly on the go like me use car chargers extensively. There’s no wasted time while driving on a busy schedule. My car is my virtual office and as such, I need to plug in my smartphone (iPhone) constantly to keep the juices flowing for my next stop. To power it up, I need a charger to quickly fill up my phone, the more I have of these in areas where I move around or station myself to, the better it is. This 2-ampere Car Charger does a pretty good job of getting my iPhone loaded & running in less time. It gives 2A power if it is exclusively charging one device, that’s the average car chargers’ output. The 2nd slot are for emergency devices or when I have a passenger who would like to charge at the same time. That’s because the output will be lower if 2 devices are simultaneously charged, they will have to share on the 2A output.

On top of its power-charging performance is the affordable price. Price difference with competing generic brands is 20% to 40% lower. I like the convenience of having this type of charger in all my vehicles that don’t cause a dent in the pocket.

TECH Tips: Sound Tripping During My Me-Time

T.amz.HeadphonesI80.SoundIntone.15.11.15

Headphones I80 by Sound Intone

How I use this headphones:
when editing videos
when listening to audiobooks and music

Sound quality:
Clear audio quality, full bass and treble sounds, simple audio jack connection, easy-to-press volume buttons on the cord ergonomically and separately functional and accessible, and soft cushion headband and ear muffs in a lightweight plastic case are some of the qualities of these headphones.

Tips for using, storing & cleaning:
I use my earbuds when on the go, but for serious audio connections, I resort to this headphones, where I am closer to my computer or device for my core work. The wire is comfortably 3 feet long. Since I use it only for audio output, this is what I have to say, I like the way it closes me in to focus on my audio editing. I do this 3 to 4 hours straight and the weight of the headphones or the pressure clasp between my ears did not bother me. I just have to air my ears every 30 minutes or so to hamper sweat build-up. The weight is just right for a petite female adult head.

When storing, the cord can be detached. For cleaning, it can be done with water-moistened clean cloth for both the plastic and padded surfaces.

TECH Tips: For Impromptu Business Presentations & Personal Video VOIP Calls on Flatscreens

This Type C to HDMI Converter allows my MacBook Pro to be connected a larger flatter screen when making business presentations for a larger crowd. It is a plug-and-play unit that directs audio and visual output from my Mac to an HDTV.

I like the way it performs because there is no delay in the output for both video and audio. This makes the converter serve well for professional and personal use, like when doing VOIP Skype conference calls where there are multiple viewers from my end of the teleconference who need to view live demonstrations onscreen.

TECH Tips: Keeps My Dinosuar DVD Players Up & Running on Flatscreens

This AC to HDMI Converter keeps my older versions of DVD players running with my newer flatscreens. I’m surprised to see its audio and video output perform the way it used to on my Sony 21” Sensurround, except now on a larger flatter screen.

I thought all along that I will have to discard these older entertainment devices when I dispatched my obsolete TV sets that went with it. This converter will definitely make my devices serve me longer, and make me enjoy my DVD collection of movies over and over without need to upgrade to newer copies or devices.
