HEALTH Helps: Varying Good Bacteria Strains with Different Probiotics for Mazimum Gut Performance, Nutrient Absorption & Better Moods

There are hundreds of species of good bacteria that need to be replenished in our system. Three (3) of the more important families are bacillus, lactobacillus and bifidobacterium. This probiotic provides seven (7) common species under these families, and they are:
1– Bacillus subtilis
2– Lactobacillus rhamnosus
3– Lactobacillus casei
4– Lactobacillus plantarum
5– Lactobacillus acidophilus
6– Bifidobacterium longum
7– Bifidobacterium breve

We don’t know exactly which of the species need replenishment, so it’s best that we rotate our probiotics to cover as much of the species as possible.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The condition of our gut or digestive system is important primarily because it serves several functions. Firstly, it acts as the center for synthesizing vitamins and minerals from the food we eat before it is distributed to other body parts to serve its ultimate purpose. Secondly, it is the nutrient supplier for the health and maintenance of our entire digestive system. And lastly, it enhances the immune system through neuroreceptors present in the digestive system, which is also responsible for the gut-brain communication that controls our moods.

In order to maintain the healthy condition of our gut, approximately hundreds of species of good bacteria numbering in the trillions are necessary to maintain equilibrium with other internal microorganisms. Good bacteria have to maintain its type and count in order to perform effectively. A healthy gut environment is achieved when good and bad bacteria reside in harmony.

But there are situations when this harmonious balance and their separate functions become disrupted. And the following occur when one outnumbers the other.

GOOD BACTERIA
—feed on fibers & complex carbohydrates.
—help improve intestinal environment
—remove toxins & harmful substances produced by bad bacteria
—strengthen immunity
—promote healthy skin & fur coat
—cause alkalinity in the gut environment

BAD BACTERIA
—feed on protein, refined sugars and fats
—produce toxins & carcinogens
—weaken immunity & intestinal health
—impair health & aging skin & fur coating
—age the skin
—lower energy
—cause acidity in the gut environment

Our genetic predisposition dictates the natural bacteria balance of our good and bacteria system. The older we get, the more gut imbalance will occur. But there are also external risk factors that can be avoidable and unavoidable such as antibiotic intake which trigger bad bacteria to turn into disease-causing pathogens and cause further harm.

To prevent detrimental effects from occurring, it is beneficial to supplement our naturally-produced good bacteria with probiotics to support what we lack in diet, both in count and number.

Probiotics, loosely translated as “for life” or “for the promotion of life” from its Greek root words, are natural food and oral supplements that promote the proliferation of good bacteria normally present in healthy digestive tracts to support various normal functions and allow maximum performance. Stress, unhealthy diet and lifestyle, and/or medication intake often trigger an imbalance of the natural microflora which can eventually result to slow recuperation rate, general fatigue and mood swings, among many others. Good probiotics should exhibit the following factors: (1) mostly alive while being monitored, (2) should present health benefits, and (3) be at levels that can produce the health benefits expected from it.

The common sources are dairy and fermented products. Oftentimes, we cannot get the daily probiotics requirement we need from the food we eat, so it is necessary to supplement it.

THE ADVANTAGES OF PROBIOTICS by VITA ADVANCED

This probiotic combination supplements the demands of our colon health. When taken regularly, it not only guarantees an array of health benefits such as good stool formation, but also helps improve our moods and enhance metabolism and immunity, as well. The capsule form is easy to swallow and contains 7 strains from the 3 most common families of good bacteria, namely bacillus, lactobacillus and bifidobacterium, to help regain the gut balance we need for normal functioning.

Since I started taking it regularly, I had been more energetic (maybe due to better nutrient absorption from diet and supplementation), experienced less of the bothersome tummy and stool irregularities, and had always been in the best of moods. Taking it has increased my confidence that I have a normal gut environment to maximize the nutrients from my diet and supplements for normal functioning of all body organs, and benefit from the consequential health advantages. Since my objective in taking this probiotic is for maintenance of a healthy tummy, I know that I am protecting all my internal mechanisms as I proceed gracefully into my golden years. I believe in the saying that “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.” So, I don’t wait for pain and trouble to set in, but rather protect myself from this avoidable mishap by deterring its onset as early as now.

BEAUTY Bonus: Healthy Shiny Bouncy Hair with more Volume Starts from the Inside

I’m grateful I was gifted with nice shiny healthy hair. Without much grooming effort, I spend less than a minute by simply brushing it straight and I’m ready to go. Unfortunately, age I guess has a toll on it, and I notice the strands are not as plumped as they used to be. Even the roots seem to be oilier than before that it contributes further to the limpness.

I use volumizing conditioners but aren’t happy with the results. It takes out the oiliness, and therefore limpness, but by the end of the day, my hair sticks to my head making me look like Olive Oyl of the Popeye comic series.

I’m glad I found a hair nourishing supplement of keratin and collagen in these capsules. I still believe that hair follicles should be fed and nourished from inside the body, and not only topically. Since I’ve taken it a month back, I experience whole day lifts to my tresses. The natural nutrients must have kept it healthy, bouncy and looking full of life. I can say this because I had kept all other hair-related products constant to observe the individual effect of this oral keratin intake. I also noticed less hair shedding in my shower drain, brush, and pillow.

Overall, I am happy with the results. Not only that it causes the aesthetic improvement, but each hair strand looks much more healthy, hydrated and alive.

HEALTH Helps: When the Enzymes Our Body Produces is Inadequate

MY GUT HEALTH STRATEGY: I alternate different digestive enzyme formulations to cover as much ground with the numerous enzymes that our body needs. On the average products give 14 to 18 enzymes but in different combinations.

COMPARATIVE STUDY: I count the type of enzymes in the formulations I take, and this has 18! That’s 4 more than the formulation I used to take. I’m not aware of the specific enzymes that break down their respective substances, but at my age and lifestyle, every little help for my tummy to function properly is a good investment for total health maintenance and disease prevention. A good tummy means better processing of all the health benefits from the food we eat for the rest of the body to benefit. An unhealthy tummy means that even if we eat healthy food, it cannot be processed correctly into useable form for the body to use.

BACKGROUND: “All disease begins in the gut,” so says 400 B.C. Greek physician Hippocrates. Since then till now, people take gut health lightly. But truth of the matter is what we take in and how our body processes it, dictates our health situation. My busy lifestyle often pushes me to the extreme— not eating on time, skipping meals, indulging on fast and junk food, etc. I have a tendency to set it aside and start paying attention only when pain and ill conditions start to creep in.

MY CURRENT SITUATION: I don’t take my gut health lightly. It is but logical to consider that whatever we take in is the makeup of our body. If diet cannot sufficiently feed all internal requirements for our system to run smoothly, like oil to an engine, then something will give in sooner or later. Much as I like to eat home-made natural food and rotate beneficial macro and micronutrient groups, I indulge on fast-food to keep up with my schedule. A little loving for my gut are supplement enzymes that I don’t get adequately with the type of food I eat, as well as its slower production as I age, the reason behind more frequent occurrences of tummy discomfort and problems.

THIS UNIQUE FORMULATION: This formulation has 16 digestive enzymes to process fat, carbohydrates, protein, dairy and other hard-to-digest substances into useable forms. This is the 4th formulation I have tried, and it has 18 important enzymes. It’s also good idea to circulate the enzymes one takes to make sure that all deficits are covered adequately. This is a rundown of the enzyme it contains:
(1) protease 1
(2) protease 2
(3) asperigellopepsin
(4) amylase
(5) lipase
(6) cellulase
(7) glucoamylase
(8) invertase
(9) alpha galactoseilase
(10) beta glucanase
(11) pectinase
(12) xylanase
(13) phytase
(14) hemicellulose
(15) lactase
(16) bromelain
(17) papain
(18) peptilase

DOSAGE & RESULTS: 1 capsule twice a day before meals keeps my gut healthy for the proper nutrients to be absorbed and the bad substances to be passed out. In this way, I don’t experience the symptoms of gas pains, flatulence and other tummy troubles resulting to better moods to meet the day’s demands. In short, it keeps the gut-brain sensory mechanism up and running in tip-top shape at all times, keeping me at my best.

MY FINAL WORD: Since these are supplements and not therapeutic, I know that I am taking care of myself now and of my future overall health. And so I end this review with the old adage that “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound, or even ton of cure.”

HOME Helps: Quality of Life for my Veteran Furkids

My experience in the pharmaceutical industry gives me a grasp of pharmaceutical (requires prescription) and over the counter (OTC) products, and I use the same understanding when caring for the health of my 7 furkids. This view is solely my opinion from a layman’s point.

I come from a family of arthritis sufferers from as far back as my grandmother. Though at my age and active lifestyle (shopping mostly), I can still attribute the sporadic pain to overexertion (age denial), I have to admit though that I have to manage this eventual knee-debilitating condition. So, I have decided that the earlier I protect the health of my knees, the better it would be for my glorious years. In the same way, I do the same for 2 of my dogs who are now past the age of 10. They are no longer as agile and active as they used to be, and I want to protect them from the agonizing pain that arthritis will eventually bring.

Osteoarthritis is a condition when the normal composition of the cartilage of joints is eroded resulting to pain and inflammation that cause immobility. This is a result of the daily beating the knee and ankle joints receive since the day our pets learned to stand & run, and worsens from the weight it bears as they continue to tip the scale. So, watching their weight is one way to help delay or eliminate the symptoms.

Since they have no option but to be on their paws most of the day, the next best thing to do is to watch what they eat in the hope that it will contribute to the constant repair and good health of their weight-bearing joints. Since it is impossible to feed all the nutritional requirement through diet, oral supplements come into play to augment wherever dogfood left off inadequately. And joint health should not be set aside to promote quality of life in later years.

Funny thing is, I take supplements with the same composition as my lovely furballs, so let me share with you what I believe the dog world gets based on human experience.

Chondroitin sulfate is a natural major component of cartilage cells and works to maintain the structural integrity of the tissues. It is responsible for resisting compression impact taken by the joints through electrostatic repulsion. Osteoarthritic sufferers have diminished chondroitin, so building it up would be a good idea. Taking oral chondroitin sulfate shows a 15% to 24% bioavailability in the synovial fluid and cartilages, right where it’s needed to do its job. I wonder what the bioavailability is for dogs, but I know it wouldn’t be far from that, depending on body weight.

Glucosamine is a supplement sourced from sea crustaceans. It is a precursor of or the component that triggers an essential structural cartilage component. Though taking it orally can make the component up to 20% bioavailable for use in the plasma and synovial fluid, clinical studies show that it is not enough to build new tissues. Yet, looking at the brighter side, helping out our dogs’ joints rehabilitate itself in whatever way we can, moreso the natural way, is better than doing nothing at all.

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), available from plants and in marine areas, has a variety of benefits such as action against mucus-membrane inflammation, stress and allergies.

The effect of the ingredient combination is formally noted in the multi-center Glucosamine and Chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) study by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and published on the New England Journal of Medicine by Dr. Clegg and colleagues in 2006, where 67% from the human patient group given the combination of chondroitin and glucosamine produced improvement in pain scores by 20% after 24 weeks of use. This is not far from the pain improvement achieved from taking celecoxib, a pharmaceutical pain reliever, but without the side-effects associated with taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). The combination supplement has the additional benefit of having a direct action on the joints as well, and not limited to pain management. I’m pretty sure my non-complaining fur angels would reap the same benefits.

Unfortunately, this is not for all. Because some components are sourced from shellfish, it is not to be taken by dogs that are allergic to it. It is also not recommended for use when symptoms of pain and inflammation are present, as it does not present a benefit during this period.

My chocolate Labrador Retriever “Santino” and my apricot toy poodle “Astoria” take a collective dose of 6 teaspoons per day, so 1 bottle is good for five weeks. The addition to their dry food is unnoticeable as they lick their bowls clean after every meal.

As for now, I’d rather reciprocate all the love and caring they have shown to me through the years by making our remaining companionship as enjoyable as possible— that is, illness and pain-free. My fur buddies can’t use a walking stick to aid their four legs when the need arises, so I’ll end by saying that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

BEAUTY Bonus: Time-Tested Natural All-Around Beautifier for Shiny & Healthy Hair, Nails & Skin

What’s important for me when I use natural oils is that it should be light, non-sticky, easily absorbable and has no overpowering or, or better yet, no scent… and this brand by ISA Professionals exhibits all. I apply it by rubbing it on my hair, nails and lips right after a shower, allowing it to be absorbed for a few minutes before toweling off. My hair is softer and shinier, something that hair conditioner cannot achieve, and the ends don’t look distraught nor dry. Damaged hair from too much blowdrying and ironing can also be repaired with a short hot oil treatment by simply wrapping my tresses with a hot-steamed towel after application. My nails are also harder and have a healthier color and texture after only 2 weeks of use. Luscious wet-look lips are achieved by dabbing a small amount of oil onto applied lipstick with the fingertips. For intensive treatment of cracked soles, I rub a generous amount at bedtime and wrap my feet with socks for fresh-looking heels the following day.

I love the consistency of this argan oil because it spreads easily. The measured dropper allows calculated dispensing so there’s no wastage, and makes the application process less messy, too… no more slippery oily bottle after use.

Organic argan oil is an astonishingly all-around natural beautifier. I can’t stop raving about how these time-tested beauty secrets still come available unadulterated in these modern times. With the abundance of chemically-unfriendly products with endless claims and unwanted side-effects, I’m still one of those who stick to age-old secrets that beauty icons such as Cleopatra had passed on for centuries.

TRAVEL Bug: Discreet & Comfortable Security Precaution Against Electromagnetic Theft for Travel Documents, Cash & Credit Cards When Traveling Internationally

Peace of mind is the priceless benefit I received since I started using this radio frequency identification (RFID) body belt bag for my important travel documents and credit cards while traveling internationally at just the right size. After hearing stories of rampant unnoticeable identity theft while withdrawing from automated machines abroad, standing in line by grocery counters or paying in malls, it’s worth the extra effort and investment to protect oneself from probable mishap, especially when away from home.
The belt bag is made of breathable soft material that is neither itchy nor stiff to cause discomfort. It’s really convenient to use if you want to wear it discreetly underneath clothing. Just get all your important stuff adequately covered in just the right space provided (and without unnecessary bulk). It has 3 zippered compartments to organize your documents and valuables, including a front kangaroo pouch that extends storage space to accommodate non-paper items that are not flat. The zipper mechanism runs smoothly and looks sturdy to withstand numerous openings and closings assuring multiple usage. It also has its own strap with easy snap on and off located at the side of the packet (not at the back!), and a stop drop belt loop should you choose to sling it through your belt.

Since I got this, electromagnetic security had been pretty standard for me. Especially important when traveling through airports, I don’t mind going through the extra precaution to be safe than sorry… not a funny bag at all.

HOME Helps: Hygienic Silicon Pot Holders

I admit I’m an OC when it comes to my home keeping, and that includes the kitchen. I am happy when everything is neat and orderly. This pair of silicon pot holders fits perfectly in my cooking and baking style. Firstly and function-wise, they serve perfectly to protect my hands as the heat resistant and retardant in-between while I hold on to the pan handles as I fry food or carry baking sheets out of the oven. Secondly, it looks awesome in minimalist textured design (which also helps to balance out the temperature through even distribution), and thirdly, it’s easy to clean. Simply flush in running water, and for larger soils, wash with a soft sponge and soapy water.

I also use these while BBQ-ing when the grills, grill sheets and griddles have to be adjusted, when opening and closing the grill lid, and in cases when tongs get too hot to handle. Other uses include using it as a jar opener, or even anti-slip mat and cushion at the bottom of my aquarium.

Since I got them, I’ve ditched my old fabric pot holders for these chic hygienic silicon ones.
