FOOD & DRINK Festival: Oozing Aroma & Flavour in my Morning & All-Day Coffee, Less Messy Preparation, too

amz.15.3.29.CoffeeGrinder.Cozyna.81nNxHAlquL._SL1500_I’d like to consider myself a coffee connoisseur. As important as the beans I select is the way I prepare them. Freshly ground coffee releases all the aroma & flavour of the coffee beans at just the exact time you choose to enjoy it. Unfortunately in the rush of things, I do not have the luxury of time to prepare my favorite beverage the way I like it, until I discovered this coffee grinder that allows me to revel in my brew without the fuss.

The simple 3-step instruction of load—grind—pour allows me to have my coffee in a jiffy. There’s less possibility of spillage, so less clean-up time. There’s no wastage in every grind load as well, because you’ll see the amount of coffee bean load through a clear window, in case you forgot to measure prior to loading. The adjustable ceramic burr grinding tool must have gone a lot of testing, too, because I think it cuts your beans at just the right sizes & angles to release the aroma & flavor you are looking for from your choice beans. It comes in a stainless steel body that looks sleek & chic in the kitchen, no rust to worry about. It’s small & compact for travel, & easy to store when not in use.

TRAVEL Bug: A Traveler’s Dependable & Complete Sewing Kit for Emergency Repairs

amz.15.3.29.SewingKit.QuickStitch.61-VqAsf2OL._SL1100_I do a lot of traveling for business & leisure, & no matter how careful I am with my limited clothing (I travel light), it’s unavoidable that the stitching on apparel can come loose after a whole day out, or in the rush of packing, had mistakenly included unrepaired ones. To answer these rare but probable mishaps, I stash in my own emergency sewing kit, as not all hotels provide adequate sewing tools & threads. This one from Quick Stitch solves most of my immediate problems. It is small & handy in a neat zippered pouch, so it does not occupy much space nor add weight to my luggage, yet complete enough with 12 threads in all the primary & secondary colors of the rainbow, inclusive of the standard black & white. I can confidently pick one nearest to the color I need. The spools are reuseable & may be refilled, no need to discard to buy a new kit. The threader is a plus, & there’s one more for extra in case you break the first.  Not to mention are the teeny-weeny scissors & thimble that ease the sewing process, I don’t have to bite off thread to cut it nor suffer needle marks when doing sewing on tough materials. Though I have little use for the tape measure & varied needles, I keep them handy. The gartered organizer straps keep everything tidy which makes it easy to check if you need thread refills or fail to put back some of the tools. As a travel bug, this sewing kit answers all my needs.

BEAUTY Bonus: Mini-Botox Treatment in the Eye Area Without the Painful Injection

Admittedly, I am in a slow creeping war with a new dermatological enemy— wrinkles, especially around the eyes. This product feedback is my sole opinion & experience on its use, & should not be considered as medical or aesthetic advice.

It’s not an easy situation to deter wrinkles. I feel that my anti-acne medication (yes, I am in my 40s & still suffer from occasional breakouts) controls the problem but worsens the moisture quality of the skin, making it look dry, parched and wrinkled, & concentrated in the eye area where crow’s feet start to be visible. Finding the right wrinkle-deterrent formula to act in combination should not aggravate my acne situation, but rather answer its primary purpose of rehabilitating my skin, and possibly add more benefits with its other ingredients.

The combination of vitamins A, C & E aids collagen synthesis, and simply put, the more collagen one has, the less wrinkles there are. Adding more components: aloe, cucumber extract, and chamomile extract, and without going into biochemistry, these ingredients may supplement, synergize (or trigger multi-fold), and/or stimulate each other to do their own individual and combination actions of moisturizing, lessening the visible signs or wrinkles and/or repairing the skin.

What’s important for me is that I get the anti-aging effect around my eye area without exacerbating my acne situation. The anti-wrinkle action cannot really be attested to (I can’t compare it to how fast my wrinkles will show without any topical intervention), but after having used it for only 2 weeks at bedtime, I feel the skin in my eye area more supple, less stretched and dry, and the crow’s feet undetectable… and without aggravating the acne. Only time will tell if this product will make me look less my age, but there’s no harm in fighting the years fiercely, but gracefully! 😉

BEAUTY Bonus: Fighting Age Gracefully… Wrinkle Deterrent for Cyclical Acne-Prone Mature Skin

This product feedback is my sole opinion & experience on its use, & should not be considered as medical or aesthetic advice. I have a dry-outside-oily-inside skin, suffer from severe cyclical acne which had caused some scarring, & in my 40s, so if you are in the same situation, this review might be helpful to you.

Admittedly, I am in a slow creeping war with a new dermatological enemy— wrinkles.

It’s not an easy situation to combat both acne & deter wrinkles. I feel that my anti-acne medication controls the problem but worsens the moisture quality of the skin, making it look dry, parched and wrinkled. Finding the right wrinkle-deterrent formula to act in combination should not aggravate the acne situation, but rather answer its primary purpose of rehabilitating the skin, and possibly add more benefits with its other ingredients.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a high-viscosity (thickness characteristic) substance that adds fullness and volume to cells. It is commonly used in joint injections to replace lost joint fluids among arthritis sufferers, and acts in the same way as fluid replacement when it is in the form of a topical facial agent. It attracts moisture to improve its volumizing action, and because the skin cells are plumped up, wrinkles become less visible. HA also hastens collagen synthesis, and the more collagen one has, the less wrinkles there are. It is also known to have anti-oxidant properties that combat free radicals, or simply put takes out the waste materials from our skin, making it look more fresh & new, less aged & haggard.

To complement the primary acting ingredient’s activity are more components: vitamins A, C, D & E, witch hazel & aloe. Without going into biochemistry, these ingredients may supplement, synergize (or trigger multi-fold), and/or stimulate each other to do their own individual and combination actions of moisturizing, lessening the visible signs or wrinkles and/or repairing the skin.

What’s important for me is that I get the anti-aging effect without exacerbating my acne situation. The anti-wrinkle action cannot really be attested to (I can’t compare it to how fast my wrinkles will show without any topical intervention), but after having used it for only 2 weeks at bedtime, I feel my skin more supple, less stretched and dry, and my jowl line less prominent… and without aggravating the acne. Only time will tell if this product will make me look less my age, but there’s no harm in fighting the years gracefully! 😉

TECH Tips: Convenient Security Precaution Against Electromagnetic Theft for Multiple Credit Cards

Peace of mind is the priceless benefit I received since I started using this radio frequency identification (RFID) blocking cards for my credit and bank cards. After hearing stories on rampant unnoticeable identity theft while withdrawing from automated machines, standing in line by the grocery counter or paying to a gasoline station cashier, it’s worth the extra effort & investment to protect oneself from probable mishap. The cards come in 2 identical pieces for the front & back of my pack of cards. Really convenient to use if you have a flat wallet that keeps all your cards in one place. Just make sure you have the chips adequately covered. Since I got these, electromagnetic security had been pretty standard for me. Especially important when traveling internationally, I don’t mind going through the extra precaution to be safe than sorry.

TECH Tips: Fashionable Security Precaution Against Electromagnetic Theft for Financial & Identity Cards

I felt secure and less worrisome since I started using this radio frequency identification (RFID) blocking sleeves for my credit and bank cards. After hearing stories on rampant unnoticeable identity theft while withdrawing from automated machines, standing in line by the grocery counter or paying to a gasoline station cashier, it’s worth the extra effort & investment to protect oneself from probable mishap. These sleeves are made to fit the standard cards just right by not allowing the card to slip or slide when turned upside down, yet easy to pull out when needed. The assorted designs make it easy to identify which card you need, and stunningly sleek chic, as well. Since I got the sleeves, electromagnetic security had been pretty standard for me as I keep each of my cards in its own sleeve while stashed in my purse. Especially important when traveling internationally, I don’t mind going through the extra precaution to be safe than sorry.

BEAUTY Bonus: Fighting Age Gracefully… Wrinkle Deterrent and Moisturizer for Cyclical Acne-Prone Mature Skin

amz.15.3.26.AntiAgingMoisturizer.Adeline.61dM7BDxh2L._SL1000_This product feedback is my sole opinion & experience on its use, & should not be considered as medical or aesthetic advice. I have a dry-outside-oily-inside skin, suffer from severe acne which had caused some scarring, & in my 40s, so if you are in the same situation, this review might be helpful to you.

When I was younger (not too long ago), beauty experts advise that by age 30, one should have established a beauty routine that is compatible with one’s skin characteristics. I was not gifted with flawless skin, in fact, this is an understatement— I suffer from horrible cyclical grades 3 and 4 acne, that nothing seems to work for me, even after endless medical and aesthetic consultations and treatments.

Somehow, through trial and error of combining experts’ prescriptions with self-treatment, & aided by information from clinical studies, consumer reports and word-of-mouth experiences, the zits are now in considerable control, notwithstanding the fact that I am in a progressive age (possibly with lesser estrogen production, too, not admittedly). With that said, I am again in a slow creeping war with a new dermatological enemy— wrinkles.

It’s not an easy situation to combat both acne & deter wrinkles. I feel that anti-acne medication controls the problem but worsens the moisture quality of the skin, making it look dry, parched and wrinkled. Finding the right moisturizer to combine should not aggravate the acne situation, but rather answer its primary purpose to rehabilitate the skin, and possibly add more benefits.

This moisturizer is unique because it contains the long-term anti-aging system matrixyl which stimulates collagen synthesis & skin DNA repair. This simply means more collagen and better skin cells mean less wrinkles. To complement the main ingredient’s action are four more components: witch hazel, hyaluronic acid, & vitamins C & E. Without being a biochemist, these ingredients may supplement, synergize (or trigger multi-fold), and/or stimulate each other to do their own individual and combination actions of moisturizing, lessening the visible signs or wrinkles and/or repairing the skin.

What’s important for me is that I get the moisturizing and anti-aging actions without exacerbating my acne situation. BOOK Worm: “People Speak 7” by Chaim Walder… An Engaging Non-Fiction Short Story Collection by Ordinary People on Life, Family, Religious Adherence and Social Acceptability

kindle-logoThis is the second book I have read from the book series collection “People Speak” by Chaim Walder. The more I read from the series, the more learned, entertained, and engaged I have become.

The book “People Speak 7” by Chaim Walder is a non-fiction collection of 24 short stories about various topics on life, family, religious beliefs and traditions, and individual social principles and acceptance. Narrated from the viewpoint of real people telling their own stories and experiences, the stories are set amidst Jewish communities in Israel and the United States. Originally compiled in Hebrew under the title “Sipurim MeiHaChaim 7”, the short stories are translated into English by Aviva Fishman Rapaport. The book contains a glossary of Hebrew, Yiddish and Armaic words and phrases, useful for readers like me who do not come from the same background. Since this is the second book I’ve read from the series, I had become quite acquainted with the foreign words & have a fairly working idea of the common Jewish terms, so reading was a breeze this time, with less side reference to the glossary. Also, since I had become familiar with or accustomed to the writing/translation style, the stories now come out more fluid, casual and surprisingly entertaining to read, so unlike my first read of the 5th series where I assigned the self-imposed daunting task of understanding the cultural and religious backdrop to appreciate what the characters are going through.

The short stories can be individually read, without reference to each other or to its previous book series, while a few are continuation of stories from prior series.

To start with, this is the second e-Book I got to read using my Kindle Fire HD. From a technical perspective, this 181-page and 388 kB eBook takes less than a minute to download and has its own optional publisher font to use for relaxed reading. It has simultaneous device usage that allows sharing across all devices, so I get to read the book in excerpts from my iPhone while mobile, or my Kindle during bedtime. The cover page consists of the consistent artwork used for the literature series that highlights the series number, an easy grab from my e-library.

This is my review of the book’s contents:

The storytellers’ perspectives are similar to each other in terms of formal writing, that is, sentence construction and use of words and terminology by ordinary everyday people. Each are light to read and evoke the universal topics of personal beliefs and emotions that often discuss the intricate balance of individual idiosyncrasies, religious tradition adherence and social acceptability, regardless of ethnicity, beliefs or lifestyle.

To mention a few of the short stories that had created significant impact on me are “Bride in Black on White” about a bride who conformed to the tradition of succumbing to her mother’s wedding ceremony arrangement yet had to resort to staging an accident to appease her own moral choice on a conflicting decision, “The Farmer” about the anonymity of a benefactor who took in a troubled runaway teen as his guest in his Sycamour, later referred to as sick-no-more, Ranch and who turned out to be Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and “Treasures of the Kosel” about a husband’s observations on her wife’s unique ritual of going through the revered Kosel rocks to find people to help through prayers by rummaging through the rock slots for their stories scribbled on pieces of paper, and the realistic truth of how other people ground a livelihood in the area by picking up the wish coins thrown around it.

A favorite pick for me because of its all-time relevance is the heartwarming “Broken Word, Broken Hearts”, a story of a young boy who suffered speech problems as an effect of a traumatic experience, the bullying he experienced with a particular peer while growing up, his own physical and emotional healing through the help of his speech therapist, and the unexplainable power of karma and forgiveness.

I am rating this book a four-star guided by my priority criteria of personal relevance & objective achievement for selecting the books I read. The topics on life in general are universal, and though I am not Jewish, my understanding and respect for the cultural uniqueness are heightened after reading the book series. I now consider myself engaged with the series, and can’t wait to read more stories by and about real people.

BOOK Worm: “People Speak 5” by Chaim Walder… a non-fiction collection of heartwarming stories on life, family, religious adherence and social acceptability.

kindle-logoThe book “People Speak 5” by Chaim Walder, with ISBN 150543260X, is a non-fictitious collection of 24 short stories about various topics on life, family, religious beliefs and traditions, and individual social principles and acceptance. Narrated from the viewpoint of real people telling their own stories and experiences, the stories are set amidst Jewish communities in Israel and the United States. Originally compiled in Hebrew under the title “Sipurim MeiHaChaim 5”, the short stories are translated into English by Aviva Fishman Rapaport. The book contains a glossary of Hebrew, Yiddish and Armaic words and phrases, useful for readers like me who do not come from the same background. The short stories can be individually read, without reference to each other or to its previous book series.

To start with, this is the first e-Book I got to read using my Kindle Fire HD. From a technical perspective, this 228-page and 399 kB eBook takes less than a minute to download and has its own optional publisher font to use for relaxed reading.

Each are light to read and evoke the central topics of personal beliefs and emotions that often discuss the intricate balance of individual idiosyncrasies, religious tradition adherence and social acceptability.

To mention a few of the short stories that are relevant to me are the short stories “Nursing Home” about a widower who remarried in his senior years and opted to sell all his assets and live in an elderly care institution against his children’s wishes, “Building Number Eighteen” about a man who balances the his job, his family’s security to have a better home and the time and financial demands of both, and “The Only Thing to Fear is Fear Itself” about a woman who was hesitant to have more children because of health repercussion.

A favorite pick for me is the hilariously written short story “Covered for Life”, a story of a woman who wouldn’t submit to covering her hair for the sake of religious and social acceptability, yet when she finally succumbed to the pressure by wearing a wig, found herself saved from possible harm.

I am rating this book a four-star guided by my priority criteria of personal relevance for selecting the books I read. I am not Jewish, but after reading this book, my understanding and respect for the cultural uniqueness is heightened.
